About the position
The University of Wyoming is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art History, starting in August 2025. The ideal candidate will have a non-European research focus, preferably in Indigenous Art of the Americas, and will be responsible for teaching Art History Survey and upper-level courses. The position emphasizes active scholarship, collaboration in curriculum development, and mentorship of students in a Liberal Arts setting.
Responsibilities
• Teach a 2/3 course load for the academic year, including Art History Survey and upper division courses.
• Maintain active scholarly research and professional development at regional and national levels.
• Provide service to the department, college, and university.
• Work with colleagues to develop an evolving art history curriculum.
• Serve as advisor/mentor to major and minor students in the department.
Requirements
• Ph.D. in Art History
• Two years teaching experience
• Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of lower- and upper-level art history courses
• Active non-European research focus research agenda with short- and long-term goals
• Excellent communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
• Demonstrated two years post-doctoral teaching experience
• Strong and established scholarly research in Indigenous art of the Americas
• Demonstrated application of advanced art history pedagogies and philosophies
• Public or digital humanities research methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to advise, mentor, and support students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences in the classroom and department
• Experience working in a collegial team environment.
