With guidance from the Manager of Education Programs and Curricula, the Clinical Development Educator I designs, delivers, and evaluates learner-centered and performance-based curricula; participates in leading train-the-trainer and mentorship programs; coordinates training and administers the learning management system (LMS); and fosters continuous improvement by actively participating in the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and serving as a change agent for the organization. The role identifies and acts on opportunities to improve individual and organizational performance as well as effectiveness of the training program itself.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssurance of Instructional Design Quality

• Ensures that learning solutions are developed in a manner that aligns with best practices and reinforces organizational goals.
• Facilitates curriculum development meetings with stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs) and other educators.
• Creates and implements curriculum development project plans to coordinate tasks of project teams including other educators.
• Reviews project deliverables completed by others on the team for adherence to instructional design principles, established templates, and organizational standards.
• Coaches and mentors other educators on curriculum development and training to improve their knowledge and skills.

Instructional Design

• Establishes, administers, delivers, and evaluates learner-centered and performance-based curricula, instructional content, and competency assessments.
• Acts as clinical education generalist but may be assigned to support specific departments within the organization.
• Develops and carries out didactic and simulation training, conducts department specific or focused ad hoc training, and acts as faculty for Clinical Academy and New Hire Orientation.
• Carries out routine and ad hoc check-ins with new and existing staff, develops training plans or roadmaps, and acts as an ongoing resource for employees during and after the orientation process.
• Participates in, develops, facilitates, and leads various education programs (i.e, Clinical Academy, Clinical Learning Series, and Clinical Skills Days, etc.).
• Analyzes learning needs by consulting with leadership, managers, and other stakeholders to identify performance gaps, goals, and success indicators.
• Assesses organizational factors that may address performance gaps or impact training outcomes and makes recommendations to stakeholders.
• Designs learning solutions and proposes effective strategies to stakeholders.
• Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to define and document learning objectives and research content.
• Develops presentations, facilitator guides, participant guides, web-based training, job aids, assessments, and other performance support tools.
• Develops learning solutions that blend web-based training, instructor led training and didactics, on-the-job experience and training, and third-party training.
• Develops training materials using technology such as PowerPoint, Word, Articulate, and Adobe Creative Cloud for authoring, editing video, editing audio, and publishing.
• Works with SMEs and learners to develop and pilot test material before implementing training.
• Transitions learning materials to eLearning platforms.
• Evaluates learner reaction, knowledge acquisition, and performance outcomes.
• Updates curricula and competency assessments according to changes in practice, performance needs, effectiveness, and course maintenance schedules.
• Establishes competency assessments such as quizzes, knowledge exams, direct observation, and associated checklists, etc.
• Ensures regulatory compliance with work product.
• Develops, integrates, and maintains simulation-based training programs for continued development of staff.
• Guides and directs the development of professional educational materials used within hospitals and other clinical settings.

Training Delivery

• Delivers instructor-led training in person and through technology such as web-based conferencing and interactive applications.
• Participates in leading the train-the-trainer, preceptor, and mentorship programs.
• Trains select employees throughout the organization to act as trainers who perform on the job training and conduct competency reviews of their peers.
• Onboards new employees to their roles by providing ongoing assessment of their growth, development, and readiness.
• Collaborates with managers of trainees during orientation and onboarding to ensure training needs of individual staff are met.
• Partners with delivery teams to ensure successful transition of curriculum and transfer of learning from development to implementation.
• Leads Referral Responder/Management for training for Family Resource Coordinators, Donation Program Consultants (and others as requested) and provides ongoing support and mentoring.
• Delivers, as requested, training on the Donor Risk Assessment Interview.
• Some elements of the training program are not conducive to online or remote learning as the work deals with educational matters which are better learned from in person training, for example: on-the-job experience, on-the-job training, and observation. Delivery method will be determined by the Manager of Education Programs and Curricula and the Director of Learning and Development.

Train-the-Trainer & Mentorship

• Provides oversight (“dotted line”) of field trainers/preceptors.
• Partners with preceptors, field trainers, and supervisors to go “on-site” to observe staff skill development, coach, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assures trainers are effective in their roles (e.g. consistent and accurate content as well as ability to transfer knowledge and skills).
• Manages the training and competency assessment activity of trainers.

Training Coordination

• Coordinates, schedules, and tracks orientation, training, and competency assessments.
• Facilitates the Continuing Education Unit process (CEU).
• Meets new clinical staff to explain the clinical orientation process and be a clinical resource to support and mentor them.

LMS Administration

• Actively uses the learning management system or works with an LMS Administrator to establish curricula, assign and document training and competencies, track compliance, and maintain records.
• Maintains training and competency assessment records to assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Performance Improvement

• Keeps current with industry and federal regulations pertaining to the donation industry.
• Fosters continuous improvement, actively participates in the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and serves as a change agent for the organization.
• Participates in work reviews to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Represents DNWest nationally within the organ procurement organization communities (committees, presentations, abstracts, etc.).
• Collaborates with stakeholders to determine best practices.
• Identifies and acts on opportunities to improve individual and organizational performance.
• Evaluates the impact of practice changes on learner performance to assure effectiveness.
• Participates in leading communities of practice.
• Based on quality reviews of donation processes, makes recommendations to the Director of Quality Systems for continual quality improvement projects.
• In partnership with the Manager of Education Programs and Curricula oversees California State Board of Registered Nurses (CA BRN), Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority - REMSA (NV EMS),and American Board for Transplant Certification/North American Transplant Coordinators Organization (Continuing Education Points for Transplant Coordinators) programs to provide CEUs and professional certification support for both internal and external audiences.
• Participates in and evaluates the effectiveness of professional education activities related to improving overall performance of recovery of organs for transplant.
• Assists staff to identify conferences, workshops, and similar beneficial educational opportunities.
• Works with conference attendees to ensure learning is disseminated.
• Assists Clinical Services staff as requested, to prepare case and abstract presentations, identify resources, offer guidance, and mentor such efforts.
• Disseminates research findings to the organ, tissue, and eye donation communities through presentations and publications.
• Maintains journals and periodicals pertaining to donor management and research-based management protocols. Disseminates articles of interest.
• Maintains clinical skills by periodically performing essential procedures (e.g., on-site donor evaluation, donor management).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree in biological sciences, health, or adult education: an equivalent degree/diploma/certification in an allied health field with three or more years of experience may substitute for educational requirement.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in instructional design and delivery.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an organ and tissue procurement organization or an allied health organization preferred.
• Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) preferred.
• Ability to travel regionally and nationally.
• Preferred software skills/experience:
• Intermediate to advanced skill in MicroSoft suite of applications.
• Intermediate to advanced skill in Zoom.
• Beginner to intermediate skill in Articulate 360 eLearning development suite of products.
• Beginner to intermediate skill in Adobe suite of products.
• Beginner to intermediate skill in Qualtrics.
• Proven experience with process modeling and flowcharting with tools such as Visio.
