Primary Location: Home based – Western US (ability to travel up to 50%)
Reports to: Corporate Environmental Manager
Compensation: $100,000 – $110,000 + Bonus and Benefits (salaried, exempt)
Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. About this Role and About You
The Environmental Specialist leads or participates in the completion of environmental initiatives across Chemtrade operations including site remediation, permitting, auditing, monitoring, measurement, reporting, and applying best practices for environmental stewardship and sustainability. Coordinate corporate environmental support and interactions with company locations and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial and local environmental laws and regulations. Develop, review, and analyze environmental compliance reports and documentation for air, water and hazardous waste. Write comprehensive reports regarding status of environmental projects.
Qualifications
• Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in related environmental compliance responsibility preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends and resources.
• Highly motivated and results-oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to build consensus and influence others
• Analytical and problem solving skills are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Software (Word, Excel and Access) and extensive Internet search capabilities and analytical abilities.
• Ability to assist in the development of budget plans and forecasts.
• Exceptional organization and presentation skills. Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of databases and ability to use databases for trending.
• Willingness to travel (30-50%).
• Professional certification beneficial, preferably in an Environmental discipline (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Professional Engineer, etc.) and ESG Experience.
• Knowledge of Responsible Care and other Environmental Management Systems.
• Knowledge of Emergency Response procedures (e.g., Incident Command, 40 hr. Haz-Mat Technician level, confined space rescue, etc.).
• Detailed knowledge of U.S. Environmental regulations (EPA, DOT, CEPA, TDG, etc.).
Responsibilities
• Provides corporate environmental support to ensure company manufacturing locations, offices, support centers, and project sites are in compliance with applicable Federal, State, Provincial, local, and other environmental statutes and regulations that can impact company operations. Ensures that environmental standards, policies
programs, procedures, and guidelines are effectively implemented and enforced. 40%
• Assist as directed in the maintenance of Chemtrade’s ESG metric tracking database. participate as a member of the ESG Team and perform tasks related to corportate ESG tracking scoring, and implementation. 20%
• Monitor interactions with regulatory authorities, insurance carriers, consultants, or other stakeholders on environmental issues impacting company operations. Review citations/fines imposed by regulatory agencies and develop recommendations to minimize impact and prevent recurrence. 10%
• Conduct periodic reviews and audits to evaluate implementation and compliance of Responsible Care, environmental, safety, health and security programs. Lead and/or oversee incident investigations. Drive identified deficiencies and action items to completion. 10%
• Track and report on status of corporate environmental compliance goals, objectives and projects. Develop, organize and communicate metrics to track environmental performance. 5%
• Assist in effective communication and support of environmental compliance goals, objectives and projects. Assist in development and communication of Chemtrade corporate environmental standards, procedures, programs, and guidelines. 5%
• Globally monitor environmental, safety, health and security regulations for potential impacts to company operations. Implement compliance plans when required. 5%
• Other duties as assigned necessary to support achievement of company goals and objectives. such as but not limited to: 1. Provide site EHS support as needed. 2. Create opportunities for expanded employee involvement and participation in environmental programs. 5%
