We're seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic team at Costco Wholesale. As a Cloud Engineer (Microsoft Azure), you will serve as a subject matter expert, working closely with managers, architects, engineers, and developers to deliver practical technical solutions in the cloud. This role requires hands-on technical design and implementation of infrastructure solutions in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build prototypes of potential features and improve automation of applications, systems, and platforms, identifying opportunities for continuous optimization and process improvement.
- Apply knowledge to practical and sustainable applications and capabilities, contributing to, interpreting, and communicating business, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.
- Formulate and direct activities aligning short-term goals with long-term initiatives, providing accurate and timely estimates of work disruption schedules.
- Influence and drive the adoption of best practices and high-quality standards across the division, integrating various solution components across multiple platforms using industry-standard interfaces.
- Test and resolve issues, perform root cause analysis, identify gaps, recommend solutions and preventative measures, and guide team members towards solution delivery plans.
- Perform proof of concepts and use diagnostic/debugging capabilities to solve complex challenges in cross-platform systems.
- Orchestrate reviews for system additions and/or improvements, promoting and supporting a culture of compliance, risk prevention/mitigation, and corporate responsibility throughout the organization.
- Optimize team efficiency and performance through high-level technical leadership, providing technical leadership on application implementation, strategic planning sessions, documentation requirements, tool implementation, database query languages, and programming languages.
- Use subject matter expertise to support industry-standard source code control and source code change management techniques.
- Present designs and technical solutions to executives, managers, and other audiences to gain project consensus and/or approval.
- Provide technical leadership in implementing cloud applications using cloud technologies (PaaS, IaaS), database query languages, and web programming languages.
- Lead technical expertise in solving complex problems with cloud solutions, working closely with cloud infrastructure teams, architects, development/QA, and engineers to design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure environments.
- Propose and implement cloud infrastructure and automation to drive efficiency, developing monitoring rules and managing resources, including Azure Load Balancers, Virtual Networks, Subnets, Resource Groups, and Network Security Groups.
- Solve highly technical and complex problems across multiple projects and provide advisory support to internal staff.
- Monitor and manage Azure Load Balancers, Virtual Networks, Subnets, Resource Groups, and Network Security Groups, managing and troubleshooting platform issues and supporting OS patching of the Azure DevOps environment.
- Deploy, configure, and document the DevOps CI/CD pipeline, optimizing cost with cloud resources (suspend/shutdown) to drive financial efficiency.
- Monitor, alert, log, and analyze leveraging the appropriate native Azure tools, monitoring the services and third-party tools provided by Costco for networking, processing, and storage.
- Create, manage, and maintain an operational runbook consisting of standard operating procedures, configurations, lessons learned, root cause analysis, diagnostic steps, and solutions to resolve future incidents.
- Support, manage, and monitor Azure Backup and Recovery processes, documenting the Azure operational services baseline.
- Interact with corporate customers to formulate and define system scope and goals, performing data modeling, configuration, specification development, coding, testing, and documentation.
- Conduct cloud capacity planning and apply security best practices for cloud applications, consulting on running proof of concepts and recommendations on best use of Azure services to solve current challenges.
- Review the completion and implementation of cloud system additions and/or enhancements and provide recommendations to management and/or customers.
- Develop documentation on new or existing cloud systems, maintaining current knowledge of assigned relevant technology (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
- Participate in special projects as needed, working closely with the PMO to scope the next iteration and assist with implementation.
- Identify automation tools to automate build and release pipelines to improve the speed and reliability of the release process, ensuring version control for greater traceability and code reliability to track code evolutions.
- Facilitate post-launch retrospectives.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 1-3 years of experience in scripting to automate operational tasks.
- Ability to advise and guide various team members through several concurrent projects.
- Familiarity with cloud methodologies.
- Passion for cloud technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure certification.
- Experience with the Azure portal and console.
- Familiarity with XML, SOAP, REST, PowerShell, and Puppet.
- More than 3 years of experience implementing enterprise cloud technologies.
- More than 2 years of experience with enterprise software systems.
