Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing strategies that support the growth of ocean volumes and enhance the development of the ocean product. This will involve working closely with the Managing Director of Ocean, as well as other stakeholders, to develop and implement pricing programs, analyze carrier service and performance, and support sales and operations as an ocean subject matter expert. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international freight forwarding, with a focus on ocean transportation, and excellent communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies to increase ocean volumes, maximize competitiveness, and enhance service quality
- Work closely with the Managing Director of Ocean to support carrier development, pricing, and service analysis
- Analyze carrier performance and routing, and provide recommendations for improvement
- Support sales and operations as an ocean subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise as needed
- Implement and communicate pricing programs, and review volume targets to ensure alignment with business objectives
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including carriers, customers, and internal teams
- Conduct regular service reviews to ensure agreed-upon KPIs are being met or exceeded
- Assist in gathering, analyzing, and reporting information regarding performance and competitive activity
- Manage annual budget and control, monitor, and report results on a regular basis to achieve budget targets
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with at least 8 years of experience in the international freight forwarding industry
- Direct ocean experience, including working with ocean contracts, negotiating ocean rates, quoting ocean rates, and analyzing ocean rates and routing
- Prior ocean carrier experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Business-oriented with remarkable business acumen
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field, such as logistics, supply chain management, or business administration
- Professional certifications, such as a Certified Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) or a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
- Knowledge of industry-specific software and systems, such as transportation management systems (TMS) or warehouse management systems (WMS)
