Founding Engineer (Full-Stack) | Remote | Early-Stage Startup

Apply Now
We’re now looking for a Founding Engineer to help build the next generation of our platform by re-architecting and scaling the system into a modern, robust architecture. You’ll work directly with the founder and an existing part-time engineering team, own critical parts of the product end-to-end, and play a defining role in shaping both the technical foundation and long-term direction of the company. We work with institutions to improve visibility across application workflows, and enrollment operations. There is a clear path to CTO for the right person. We are a fast-moving startup operating at the intersection of: • agentic AI workflows • higher education • enrollment operations • workflow automation • systems integrations • operational intelligence Our environment is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and execution-oriented. We are looking for someone who enjoys ownership, solving messy operational problems, and building systems that directly impact customers. Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Product & Integration Engineer who can operate across: • product development • integrations • customer workflows • technical architecture • operational systems This is not a traditional “ticket-based developer” role. You will work directly with leadership, customers, and the technical team to: • design and build new modules • stabilize and improve integrations • troubleshoot production systems • structure operational workflows • help shape the future technical direction of the platform The ideal candidate is product-minded, highly independent, operationally strong, and comfortable working in ambiguous startup environments. What You’ll Work On • Build and launch new platform modules and workflows • Design and maintain university integrations (APIs, SFTP, CSV workflows) • Improve application processing and operational visibility systems • Troubleshoot production and integration issues • Work directly with customers to understand operational workflows • Translate customer problems into scalable product solutions • Improve platform reliability, architecture, and maintainability • Use AI-assisted engineering workflows to accelerate development • Help shape engineering standards and technical direction What We’re Looking For • Strong Product Thinking • You naturally think about: • workflows • operational bottlenecks • user behavior • scalability • long-term maintainability —not just code implementation. Integration & Systems Experience • Experience working with: • APIs • SFTP workflows • CSV/data integrations • authentication systems • production troubleshooting • operational workflows Startup Execution Ability You are comfortable: working independently operating with incomplete information prioritizing under pressure owning customer-facing systems moving quickly while making sound technical decisions AI-Assisted Engineering Mindset We heavily leverage AI tooling and modern engineering workflows. You should: • understand how to use AI tools effectively • know how to validate AI-generated output • think architecturally • focus on maintainable and reliable systems Ideal Background • 5+ years of engineering experience • Startup or fast-paced SaaS experience preferred • Full-stack engineering experience • Experience building operational or workflow-driven systems • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills • Strong communication skills • Experience interacting with customers or non-technical stakeholders is a plus • Technologies & Environment • Our stack continues to evolve, but experience in areas such as: • APIs • Node.js / TypeScript • React • Databases • Integrations • Cloud infrastructure • AI-assisted development workflows is helpful. Most important is your ability to: • think clearly • execute independently • solve operational problems • build scalable systems What Success Looks Like Within the first 90 days, successful candidates typically: • take ownership of critical workflows or integrations • independently troubleshoot and resolve production issues • improve system structure and visibility • contribute meaningful product improvements • reduce operational complexity for the team and customers Why Join US • High ownership and direct impact • Opportunity to shape a growing platform • Work directly with leadership and customers • Solve meaningful operational problems in higher education • AI-native engineering environment • Fast-moving startup culture with significant growth potential Location Remote-friendly. North America time zone overlap preferred. Compensation Compensation includes a combination of: • salary/stipend • equity/options • growth opportunity based on experience and level of involvement.
