Job Summary
We're seeking a skilled Medical Transcription Quality Assurance Specialist to review and edit transcribed medical documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. As a key member of our team, you'll provide feedback to transcriptionists, support continuous improvement, and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that drive quality documentation. This is a unique opportunity to work in a remote setting, leveraging your expertise in medical terminology, anatomy, and transcription guidelines to make a positive impact on healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily review of transcribed reports for completeness, correctness, and consistency, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Correct or fill in any blanks as necessary, ensuring that reports are thorough and accurate.
- Push reports to Scanning for indexing to patient's EMR, facilitating seamless integration with electronic medical records.
- Periodic review of provider's transcribed reports against actual dictation, applying industry-specific standards and guidelines.
- Randomly select transcribed or edited reports for review, providing timely and consistent feedback to the lead and/or manager.
- Recognize, interpret, and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in medical dictation, and take corrective action as required.
- Direct efforts toward quality documentation, including providing input regarding procedures, training, and resources for team members.
- Establish policies and procedures that contribute to the efficiency of the transcription department, driving continuous improvement and excellence.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A high school diploma or GED, with a strong foundation in medical terminology and transcription principles.
- Medical transcription certification preferred, but not required; medical transcription education or qualifying degree/experience also preferred.
- At least one year of previous experience as a transcriptionist in the medical field, with orthopedic experience an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease process, signs and systems, medications, and laboratory values.
- In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines (The AAMT Book of Style for Medical Transcription) and practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style, with the ability to provide consistent quality feedback.
- Excellent acoustical skills, with the ability to understand diverse accents, dialects, and varying dictation styles.
- Proficient in referencing, researching, reporting, tracking, and monitoring, with strong organizational and mathematical skills.
