Department Summary
The UNT Dallas College of Law is a Fully-Approved ABA public law school in downtown Dallas with a full-time day division and a part-time evening division. The College of Law's goals are: (1) widening access to legal education for those who could be superb legal professionals but who cannot realistically access a legal education given factors including location, cost, and the current role of the LSAT in admission to and financing of law school; (2) providing an educational program focused on excellence in developing practice-related competencies, through a curriculum mapped to those competencies and using best instructional practices, including multiple formative and summative assessment throughout, engaged class design, and a spectrum of experiential education; (3) creating opportunity for our students by keeping tuition and debt low and producing graduates with high value and ability in multiple segments of the market for legal services; (4) becoming a national leader in advancing understanding of best legal education practices, of professional formation, and of the relationship between legal education and the evolving practice and business of law; (5) improving access to justice for underserved legal needs; and (6) serving as a valuable partner in civic engagement with the City of Dallas and the North Texas region.
The UNT Dallas College of Law welcomes applications for a full time faculty member to serve as Director of Academic Success and Bar Readiness. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in academic success and bar readiness in legal education. The candidate should have the ability to oversee the operations of a law school academic success and bar readiness department, teach bar readiness courses, and possibly a doctrinal course, depending on interest and need. The position is a 12-month appointment holding faculty rank as a Professor of Practice. Depending on mutual interest and availability, the position would start in Spring 2024 or Fall 2024.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director will serve as the chief administrator for all of the College of Law academic support and bar readiness efforts. The position includes significant administrative responsibilities in addition to teaching responsibilities. The Director will collaborate with the faculty and staff to review and develop the Academic Success and Bar Readiness (ASPBR) Program at the College of Law.
The Director will supervise all Professors of Practice working in the ASPBR program.
The Director will be solely responsible for creating, presenting, implementing, and monitoring the departmental budget. The Director will be expected to work largely independently, with minimal supervision, able to make significant decisions impacting academic support and bar readiness matters, and demonstrate initiative and creativity in supervising members of the department, budgetary matters, and programming for the office.
The Director will coordinate the implementation of periodic program assessments by:

- Tracking students throughout law school.
- Reporting data related to bar exam outcomes and pass rates.
- Maintaining information on bar exam outcomes from all jurisdictions in which all law graduates take the bar.
- Providing data to, and working collaboratively with, administration, faculty and staff.
- Keeping accurate records and data for reporting on the ABA's annual bar passage questionnaire.
- J.D. degree;
- At least 5 years' experience in direct academic success work at the law school level and/or programming or individual tutoring with respect to bar readiness;
- Demonstrated ability to make use of student learning data resulting from regular formative and summative assessments;
- Demonstrated expertise with the adult learning process, particularly for diverse populations including First Gen students, among others;
- Excellent academic and professional qualifications;
- Commitment to the goals of the College of Law and its curricular and instructional objectives.
- Masters' level or higher in a field with transferable knowledge about adult learning;
- Demonstrated expertise in creating, presenting, and monitoring academic departmental budget;
- Demonstrated guiding and mentoring to promote professional formation of students;
- Demonstrated ability to supervise various departmental positions.

- Teaching academic success and bar readiness courses, and may also teach doctrinal course depending on mutual interest and need
- Oversee the Office of Academic Success and Bar Readiness
- Must be able to work largely independently, with minimal supervision, demonstrate initiative and creativity in supervising departmental positions, budgetary matters, and creating law school and bar preparation programming
- Create, present, monitor and have sole direct responsibility for departmental budget
- Supervise Professors of Practice/Academic Success professionals
- Work collaboratively with faculty and other departments to help integrate academic and bar skills across the curriculum and law school
- Implement and oversee academic support of new students, students at risk, students on academic probation, and all students interested in improving their learning and academic performance, through courses, supplemental programming, advising, individualized academic plans, and other appropriate methods
- Plan and oversee tutorials, workshops, and programs relating to study skills, learning methods, academic success, and bar readiness
- Coordinate with faculty and other administrative departments in serving as part of a team that fosters the full professional potential of students at the College of Law
- Design, implement and oversee effective academic success and bar readiness programming, in coordination with support and input from faculty members who are using formative and summative assessments throughout the curriculum
- Work with both Day and Evening student cohorts
- Develop opportunities for both in-person and online programming and feedback
- Provide regular updates and feedback regarding programming and student performance to the College of Law administration
- Track and keep records of academic counseling appointments and mandatory and voluntary programs
