Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Instructional Goals: Assist certified teachers in delivering instructional programs, reinforcing reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
- Guiding Student Learning: Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning, assist with assigned programs, and promote academic achievement.
- Classroom Support: Assist with classroom preparations, strategies for reinforcing instructional materials, and record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Behavioral Management: Collaborate with teachers to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and keep students on task.
- Non-Instructional Support: Supervise students during lunch, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
- Field Trips and Educational Materials: Accompany students on field trips, construct, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.
- Safety and Confidentiality: Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations, maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the educational team.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- Illinois State Paraprofessional License or equivalent.
- Successful completion of college-level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
- Prior experience working with elementary children is desirable.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to establish supportive relationships with students, staff, and others.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Basic arithmetic skills and ability to use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued:
- Experience working with students with special needs.
- Knowledge of educational software and technology.
- Previous experience in a classroom or educational setting.
