Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Engine is transforming business travel into something personalized, rewarding, and simple. The Accounting Manager will own month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance while collaborating across departments to support evolving business needs.
Responsibilities
- Own month-end close across assigned GL areas — journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis — with a relentless focus on accuracy, speed, and reducing manual effort close-over-close. Key assigned areas include high-complexity, revenue-specific workflows across multiple business verticals
- Develop and maintain deep understanding of Engine's revenue model and business economics — enough to anticipate the accounting implications of product and commercial decisions before they hit the GL
- Apply deep expertise in revenue recognition to ensure GAAP-compliance in both accounting for existing revenue streams and in building frameworks for new streams if they launch
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data Engineering, Finance, and Operations on accounting for new and evolving areas of the business — often before a playbook exists. Work directly with large, complex datasets to support accurate and complete accounting records, navigating and manipulating data across systems to drive close deliverables and substantiate positions
- Build and maintain automation workflows using AI tools (Claude, Gemini, Cowork, or equivalent) and reporting platforms to eliminate recurring manual work and compress close timelines
- Partner with the data team to investigate issues at root cause, assess full population impact, and implement solutions that hold up at scale
- Communicate accounting findings, data investigations, and process changes clearly to Finance, Product, and business leadership — translating complexity into actionable insight and empowering data-driven decisions
- Prepare timely, well-organized support for financial audits, quarterly close packages, and technical accounting memos
Skills
- CPA strongly preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with manager-level ownership over complex close processes in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Strong technical accounting foundation, especially in ASC 606 and revenue recognition
- Demonstrated experience building or deploying AI/automation tools to reduce manual accounting work. This is a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have
- Experience working with large, complex datasets to validate accounting outcomes, investigate discrepancies, and support scalable close processes
- Strong judgment in ambiguous situations: you move quickly, explain your reasoning clearly, and back your decisions with documentation
- Strong ability to collaborate with product and data engineers — you understand how systems work well enough to ask the right questions, identify gaps, and ensure accounting requirements are built in, not bolted on
- Start-to-finish ownership mentality — you don't leave work in someone else's inbox. You close the loop
- Strong business acumen: you understand the economics behind the numbers, not just how to post the entry
- Self-directed: you surface problems with proposed solutions attached, escalate the right things at the right time, and manage multiple deliverables to completion under deadline pressure
- Proficiency in NetSuite or comparable ERP
- 2+ years at a regional or Big Four audit firm
- Experience with Looker, Hex, or similar data platforms
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRMs
- Familiarity with close management tools and pre-close workflow design
