The Assistant Financial Controller will assist in managing the monthly close process and support the overall financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assist in supervising Accounting staff, including workload delegation, coaching, and performance management
- Help manage the Accounting team's accuracy and timeliness of deliverables
- Support accounting management activities, including billing and financial reporting
- Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices
- Prepare complete financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and reporting requirements
- Prepare and review journal entries, invoices, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing activities
- Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts
- Lead the annual external audit process, including maintaining accounting records, preparing audit schedules, reconciliations, and coordinating audit fieldwork
- Develop financial reports for management and business partners and respond to ad hoc reporting requests
- Review accounting records to identify and resolve discrepancies or imbalances
- Utilize accounting systems to improve efficiency and maintain accurate financial records
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Maintain compliance with internal reporting calendars, regulatory requirements, and filing deadlines
- Safeguard confidential financial information
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's of Science or Bachelor's of Accounting in accounting, finance or relevant field is required
- 7+ years of overall accounting and finance experience
- Proven experience working as an assistant controller or other similar position
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting procedures
- Excellent understanding of general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close processes
- Thorough knowledge of accounting best practices, GAAP, and applicable federal and state regulations
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to reporting accuracy
- High ethical standards and professional integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- CPA or CMA highly preferred
