The Mechanical and Plumbing Professional Engineer role is responsible for designing and reviewing mechanical and plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with codes, and collaborating with project teams to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Designing and reviewing mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial, residential, and institutional projects
- Performing calculations and layouts for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems
- Preparing and reviewing CAD drawings in REVIT and AutoCAD and specifications
- Coordinating designs with electrical engineer and other design team members
- Conducting design reviews
- Supporting inspections and quality assurance
- Resolving technical issues throughout the project lifecycle
- Responding to client and contractor inquiries
- Ensuring designs comply with codes and standards
- Contributing to project documentation and reports
- Collaborating with project managers and design teams to maintain schedules, manage scope, and support successful project delivery
Skills
- Strong Mechanical Engineering skills, with experience in building systems design (HVAC, plumbing, piping) and application of relevant codes and standards
- Proficient in REVIT for mechanical and plumbing layouts, details, and coordination with other disciplines
- Experience with Inspection and testing of mechanical and plumbing installations, including field review, punch lists, and quality assurance procedures
- Background in Maintenance planning and troubleshooting for mechanical and plumbing systems, with practical understanding of equipment performance and reliability
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Plumbing engineering in Utah and Idaho with NCEES record and a clear path to licensure in a relevant jurisdictions required upon hiring
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Ability to work effectively in a remote setting, manage multiple projects, and communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams and clients
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills for reports, calculations, and design documentation
- Familiarity with Automotive or similar mechanical systems is beneficial for understanding fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and component design
- Knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and sustainability or energy efficiency practices is an advantage
