As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable backend services that power the Peerspace platform, primarily using Clojure, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure a robust service-oriented architecture.
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services primarily using Clojure, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and performant
- Assisting in the maintenance and gradual modernization of legacy Node.js services as part of our broader system
- Collaborating on cloud deployments, leveraging modern tooling and infrastructure-as-code practices to enhance our deployment pipelines and overall system reliability
- Writing clean, well-documented code and participating in code reviews to uphold our quality standards
- Working closely with senior engineers, DevOps, and other team members to integrate backend services into our overall architecture and resolve operational issues
- Engaging in learning opportunities, adopting best practices, and staying up-to-date with industry trends to enhance the backend technology stack
Skills
- 5-8 years in software development, with hands-on experience in backend engineering
- Proficiency in Clojure for developing and maintaining backend services
- Familiarity with Node.js, especially for supporting legacy services
- Understanding of service-oriented architectures and RESTful API design
- Experience working in cloud environments and using modern development tooling
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools and practices
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug and optimize backend systems
- Ability to work effectively with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, contributing to collective problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Enthusiasm for learning new tools and techniques in cloud deployment, automation, and backend development
