The Senior Manager, Project Engineering is responsible for overseeing project engineering, ensuring designs align with engineering standards, and managing the implementation of complex distribution center projects.
Responsibilities
- Validation of the business requirements, development of detail process flows, and confirming the Concept of Operations with both Operations and Automation & Integration teams
- Facility design oversight for all projects through driving the efficient and effective layout, flow, work areas, and storage media for the project while maintaining DSV standard look and feel across projects and driving completion in a timely manner
- Planning and tracking work content for engineers, managing project assignments throughout the year and forecasting bandwidth via annual staff planning
- Driving & supporting alignment of DSV documented warehouse standards to support new business implementations and existing business various scopes
- Impeccable attention to operational detail, functional flow, and operational specifications
- Determine and gain agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity
- Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., WMS, LMS)
- Ability to leverage MS Project or Smart Sheets to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
- Develop the team to provide the detailed tasks required for successful implementation to the Project Manager
- Determine and gain agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity
- Identify and drive the procurement all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operation
- Prepares the Design Criteria documents
- Coordinates the efforts of the senior and junior engineer, providing mentoring, coaching counseling, & development
- Maintains the CAD version control and current scope specifics throughout the lifecycle of the project
- Engages the appropriate vendors to assess the design elements including consultants
- Leads all RFQ’s – Rack, Furniture, Technology, Signage, etc
- Creates budgetary considerations with director and project manager
- Development of continuous improvement processes & culture to be able to take learning from the previous calendar year build cycle, to continue to advance the overall standard & program
- Other duties as assigned by management to support special projects, implementations, process improvements, etc
- Experience dealing with end users, vendors and clients
- Experience in 3PL environment
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Acts as the company representative with vendors and suppliers during project execution
Skills
- Four-year degree is basic requirement (Industrial Engineering preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years Logistics/Supply Chain Industry experience
- 7+ years' experience in warehousing or industrial design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Vizio
- Knowledge of WMS functionality
- English (reading, writing, verbal), Spanish a plus
- Impeccable attention to operational detail, functional flow, and operational specifications
- Ability to leverage MS Project or Smart Sheets to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
- Experience dealing with end users, vendors and clients
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Acts as the company representative with vendors and suppliers during project execution
- Planning and tracking work & task allocation of Industrial Engineers
- Managing project assignments & supporting resource allocations and staffing planning meetings
- Providing consistent & regular feedback on performance, via formal semi-annual review sessions
- Developing & cultivating professional development of the team & individuals
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to Lift/Carry and Push/Pull 21-50 pounds
- Reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat, or kneel
- Six Sigma / Lean Certifications
- E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume warehouses
- Experience in warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.)
