Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Roo is on a mission to empower animal healthcare professionals with opportunities to earn more and achieve greater flexibility in their careers. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the frontend platform, focusing on design systems, developer tooling, and AI-assisted workflows to enhance product experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own the long-term technical direction of Roo's frontend platform, including the systems, tooling, and architecture that power development across web and mobile
- Partner with Product and Design to evolve our design system as a foundational platform rather than a standalone library
- Make our design system effortless to consume by engineers, designers, and AI agents through thoughtful integrations, documentation, tooling, and developer workflows
- Lead platform initiatives like framework upgrades, React Native modernization, Expo adoption, and shared library evolution
- Own the migration of legacy components to our v2 design system — including the tooling and documentation that let the rest of the team complete the migration themselves
- Establish patterns that let engineers ship new pages and flows quickly from a component library that's built for how people actually build in 2026
- Improve developer experience through shared tooling, automation, documentation, templates, and workflows that increase engineering velocity
- Identify and eliminate the friction points that slow builders down — missing tokens, undocumented patterns, inconsistencies that force one-off decisions — and fix them systematically
Skills
- Significant experience building production software, including a focus on frontend systems
- Strong full-stack engineering fundamentals with deep expertise in React and TypeScript. You're equally comfortable building frontend experiences, backend services, developer tooling, and platform infrastructure when the problem calls for it
- React Native or mobile experience
- Experience working closely with designers and modern design systems. You're comfortable working in Figma and understand how design decisions translate into scalable frontend architecture
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development: Cursor, Claude, or similar. You're already building meaningfully faster with these tools, and you think about how to extend that leverage to everyone around you
- You've connected design systems to prototyping tools, AI coding environments, or engineering pipelines — and you understand what makes those integrations actually get adopted vs. ignored
- You operate well in an eng org — you understand how to get work prioritized, you don't need a PM to run interference, and you're comfortable owning a technical roadmap
- Familiarity with Storybook, style-dictionary, or design token pipelines
- Experience with animation and interaction frameworks (Framer Motion, Rive, Lottie)
