We are seeking a Testing and Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Augusta, Maine, to lead and work on various Substation Testing & Commissioning and Power Grid Utility Engineering projects. The Testing and Commissioning Engineer will be primarily responsible for managing the complete commissioning process during pre-construction, construction and post-construction activities. As a Testing and Commissioning Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful deployment and optimization of diverse range of technical systems for transmission, distribution and substations. Commissioning is a systematic process for achieving, verifying, and documenting that the performance of the facility and its various systems meet the design intent and capture the functional and operational needs of the owners and occupants. Your expertise will be essential in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting various equipment and systems in the field. How will you contribute to the team? Review detailed engineering drawings and project scope pre-commissioning. Develop commissioning plans, forms, and outage strategies. Install, commission, test, and maintain transmission, substation, and distribution equipment. Conduct thorough functional testing of control circuits, wiring (pt to pt) and relay panels. Validate equipment and systems to verify functionality and performance. Prepare commissioning requirements. Review specification documents and ensure compliance. Verify site installations, coordinate outage sequencing and equipment start-up. Coordinate operational staff training and ensure regulatory compliance. Maintain a lessons learned log for continuous improvement and provide periodic updates to project team and PM. Provide technical support and report labor submissions. Manage on-site resources and provide progress reports. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate field activities and ensure smooth project execution. Establish risk mitigation plans and manage temporary configurations. Troubleshoot integration and equipment issues during commissioning. Identify and address discrepancies during testing. Review outage sequence plans and coordinate with customers. Compile final commissioning reports and asset information. Assist with construction punch list items and training resources. Develop PSMP functional forms and ensure regulatory compliance. Coordinate testing of HV equipment and ensure adherence to procedures. Verify wiring and compliance with regulations, standards and client requirements (ie. NPCC (Directory 11), NERC (PRC2, PRC 5), etc.). Work closely with design and engineering teams to provide feedback on system performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with customers to ensure their expectations are met and provide training on system operation as needed. Adhere and promote safety protocols and guidelines during field activities, prioritizing the well-being of yourself and all on site. What will you contribute? Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, preferred, or a related field with technical specialization/professional certification. (e.g. CET, P.E. or equivalent of technical years of experience) is an asset. A minimum of 5 years experience in a related industry/field. Strong knowledge of HVAC, Control System Design, Mechanical & Electrical systems, electrical apparatus, electrical equipment and substation voltage levels up to 345kV. General knowledge of transmission lines, switchyards, substations and associated equipment and materials. Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills. Proven decision making strong analytical skills and detail focused. Strong computer, MS Word, Excel, Technical writing, risk management Strong communication skills and ability to lead.
