About the Messaging and Inferred Identity Team
The Messaging and Inferred Identity team is a critical component of our Data Science and Engineering (DSE) division, responsible for driving our data science and analytics strategy for messaging to our existing member base and researching, building, and deploying our Inferred Identity algorithms. As a technical leader in this space, you will interact with diverse parts of the business, fostering collaboration and driving cross-functional initiatives to achieve our goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mixed technical roles, including data scientists, research scientists and engineers, analytics engineers, and data engineers, to drive business impact and achieve our strategic objectives
- Develop and execute the vision and roadmap for the Messaging Data Science and Virtual Identity Algorithm domains, balancing the needs of multiple business stakeholder teams and leading the team to maximize impact on the business
- Drive the strategy, research, development, and launch of our Inferred Identity algorithms, a 0-1 space that will interact with multiple established business areas
- Serve as a strategic thought partner in your domains, identifying opportunities and shaping the strategy to maximize impact on the business
- Foster a culture of innovation through collaboration with other leaders in the broader team, driving a culture of experimentation, and encouraging calculated risk-taking
- Embody Netflix values in daily work and interactions, promoting a culture of inclusivity, respect, and empathy
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience leading ML and Data Science teams, particularly in open-ended spaces or domains with complex stakeholder environments
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including proven ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of technical and non-technical business partners and other data science leaders
- A passion for driving and influencing product strategies in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Willingness to learn and rapidly absorb business context in a 0-1 space that needs to interact with stakeholders across the business
- Ability to deal with ambiguity; a strong ownership mindset, and a desire to thrive on minimal oversight and process
- A PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related field is preferred
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
- Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and data platforms
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or SQL
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
